AMAZING THINGS YOU FIND IN A TYPICAL VILLAGE MARKET

Heyy everyone! it was  a really challenging time for me last month (June). Typical of me, I find it hard to get myself together especially after being dealt with a massive blow. I really had plans, thought I had settled but then, I was disappointed. I refer to ‘was’ in the sense that I have fully recovered and ready to move forward….but still yet why do I find it difficult to recover after facing a challenge especially when it comes to my career…..I really love my job! And since  any disappointment really drains me….a whole lot. I guess I need ideas on that especially how to take that first step to recovery. I need help and suggestions!

I had visited a local market last month and decided to share pictures. If you know Abuja well and you visit the local markets, then some of these photos will not be unusual. I love the local or village markets because food stuffs are usually fresh from the farm, cheaper and a wide variety of products are usually available. The smell of firewood jollof rice or fried yam, the humility of the village women and the excitement of the kids always amaze me.

Guess what these are? they are called Kulikuli. They are made from grinded groundnut and sometimes they are mixed with pepper and sugar. The oil from the groundnut are usually sold separately in bottles. The shapes are just too cute and playful. Stuffs like this are always available in the local markets.

There’s no local market with the spices. Bags of ginger, garlic, alum, dried peppers. I am really conversant with the names of all these spices but I bet you that next time, I’ll have enough time to interview the traders……without shame! Lol

Onions are in season and it is a good thing and a must have in every home. Well, I got a basket of onions for about 400 naira only. It was definitely worth it! I am definitely not the type of woman that will visit 10 Onion sellers before buying…..I bargain but well, maximum haggling time is 2 minutes….*closes eyes*

Tomatoes and peppers are definitely not in season. A basket of tomatoes costs about 1500 naira which is not funny at all. So now girls aren’t smiling at all. Too expensive is not just fun especially when you are on a budget…ding! ding!!

Oh my! I could sleep in a room all day filled with just fruits…..but then, how would I buy more fruits? Lemons, cucumbers, watermelons, oranges, pineapples, guavas……my mouth waters as I write.

Well, I’ll advise that you visit local markets once in a while. Make sure you are dressed down; a t-shirt and a pair of jeans is just right, a sandals, very light hand bag and some ‘change’ for the wheel barrow guy who would assist you with your shopping. Don’t be afraid or shy to “price” or haggle because you’ll be amazed at how cheap things are compared to the city markets and lastly, if you need an escort, I ‘ll be excited to join you on your trip.

Enjoy!!!

  1. Awww dear so sorry about the disappointment. Honestly, life is filled with ups and downs and many people go through different challenges. What makes us stand firm is the fact that Christ is our solid rock and He is there to carry us through and strengthen us.
I have visited Abuja twice in my lifetime but I was too busy with fashion shows and film festivals to check out the local market, I'll do that the next time I visit Abuja.
I nominated you for the versatile blogger award, do check on it!

From experience, when one door closes, it's usually so you can make room for something new and better. All the best
