Child Nutrition; How to make guinea corn and millet paste

It is unfortunate that many new moms struggle really hard in providing safe meals for their family. The right food to cook, the right quantity and also the right time; whether breakfast, lunch and dinner is always a challenge for moms not just in Nigeria but in other parts of the world and; poverty makes it even more difficult for women to succeed in providing the right meals for their families.
As a champion for maternal and child health I will be sharing with you healthy meals and recipes; typical African menus that will not only spur you into action but will also guide you in making healthy choices for you and your family.

Today’s recipe is guinea corn and millet paste. This local cereal can be served to an infant from 6 months.

Ingredients
2 mudu of guinea corn

1 mudu of millet

Method

To make raw paste;

1.    Wash guinea corn and millet and soak in a clean bucket for two days.

2.   Then take the grains out of water, wash properly and take it to the commercial grinder for grinding. Grind the grains very soft and smooth.

3.   Wash your hands properly. Using your fingers and a clean sieve, pass the grounded paste through the sieve to separate the soft and the harder parts of the ground maize, adding clean water to aid the passage.

4.   After about 30 minutes, the smooth paste settles at the bottom of the container, and the water is up, gradually pour away the water and keep the smooth paste in a refrigerator for your use.

Note: Mudu is the measurement bowl used in the local markets. One mudu is equivalent to about seven milk cups.

Storage: if there is no electricity, you can add clean water to the mixture and store in plastic bowl with a lid. Do pour away the water and pour in some clean water to the bowl containing the corn paste every 24 hours.

To ensure a well-made mixture, please avoid oil. Use oil-free kitchen utensils.

    My mom always made this when growing up and we all loved it. To make it taste even better, soak it some ginger in it a day before the final wash and grind it. Its amazing.
    The more the ginger, the more the zing!

    Exactly! I also love the ginger pap and it is amazing. I think ginger is a bit too strong for babies but great for older kids. Thanks for sharing.

    Maybe you should leave out the crayfish for now. just the cereal should be okay.

    how abt the dry ones, frying dry, then grinding added with crayfish it to make a powder, is it good for babies frm six month.

    Dadadawa is the same with Guinea corn. It's called Dadadawa in hausa

    Pls look for African store around you. U will definitely get it there. Alternatively if you have someone in Newyork or Maryland they will get it for you.

    I soaked the millet n guinea corn for 6days coz I cldnt see a local grinder on time . Is it still okay for baby to drink
