It is always an interesting topic to talk about sex but what makes it interesting, for me?…I don’t really know….but for you maybe you should tell me. Are young people getting the right messages? Are we getting the NOD that things are okay the way they are?.


I have been inspired to write this because today, I met a 19 yr old girl, who dropped out of school. She just got a job, and was asked to do a health check-up and GBAM! she got the shocking news that she is 12 weeks pregnant. As soon as I saw her face, this song came to my mind, and I started to singing….to myself.



If you ask me…..Na who I ask?,

The fact that I am below thirty years, work with young people, have young friends….. makes me a young person. I wonder what makes a young person tick….interesting?, want to be listened to? and successful?. with what I see now, young people see themselves as successful when they have a blackberry, own a Brazilian wig, have loads of boy/girl friends and they are having sex!.


It is not surprising to see female students in a secondary wearing make-up, trying to appear ‘beautiful’ to the male students and to their male teachers……..are you surprised?. Where has our decency gone to?, I intend asking a female student when next I see her with make-up.


I remember growing up, though my parents never told me “Jayne, you are a beautiful girl…….” I knew I had an attractive skin colour and I would use Dudu Osun (Black soap) to darken it, I didn’t want to be noticed……I guess I was so stupid because the “wise ones” have been born….they lighten up their skin, make their uniforms shorter, wear make up and Infact do touch ups before close of school.


Things are changing and very fast…faster than I can imagine. Parents are not even aware that their 15 yr old are having sex….yes!. A mother recently stated that her daughter who is in Junior secondary school cannot complete her education because she just got pregnant……tell me what does she know?…maybe a lot and that is why she chose to have sex and get herself pregnant…..okay what about the “boy”? or should I say “man” because he sees himself as such.


I sometimes find myself asking men this question “why should you (a man) stoop yourself so low, when it comes to sex?”….you defile a young girl, you rape girls, you sleep with prostitutes…….on and on and then you have a big EGO!. why?


Are they things parents are doing wrong? I am thinking so many things….Are there things young people are doing wrong?……yes!, are there things our religious leaders are doing wrong? definitely….yes!……prosperity preachers…..SMH. Are there things WE are all doing wrong…..yes oh!.


Let us spread the right messages, using whatever medium possible, let us tell the bitter truth to our loved ones even when it pains so hard. The right messages, the right attitude, the right people, the right things….. are all we need to CHANGE things. Talk to someone today, save a life!.
