Everyone will soon have the opportunity of watching Half of a Yellow Sun, the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s prize-winning novel. It’s an epic love story weaving together the lives of four people swept up in the turbulence of the Nigerian civil war. It is a fascinating and emotional story.
The two leading characters Olanna (Thandie Newton….Mission Impossible.….she’s good!) and Kainene (Anika Noni Rose…….Dream Girls) are glamourous twins from a wealthy Nigerian Family. Returning to a privileged city life, in newly independent 1960s Nigeria after their expensive British education, the two women make very different choices.
Olanna shocks her family by going to live with with her lover, the “revolutionary professor” Odenigbo (who will played in the movie as Chinwetel Ejiofor…..the guy is hot!) and his devoted, Ugwu (John Boyega..,..last year’s Attack the Block) in the dusty university town of Nsukka.
Kainene turns out to be a fiercely successful buisness woman when she takes over the family interests, and surprises herself when she falls in love with Richard (Joseph Mawle……Game of Thrones), an English Writer. Preoccupied by their romantic entanglements, and a betrayal between the sisters, the events of their life loom larger than politics. Other stars that will feature in the film include; Genevieve Nnaji, Onyeka Onwenu , Zack Orji and maybe ………ME for a waka-pass scene in the film…..just kidding…..but I wouldn’t mind that sha!.
The film will be shot in Calabar with the support of the Cross River state governor, Liyel Imoke.
With the kind of story, cast and crew I am sure we won’t be disapointed when it comes out.
