Learning to listen

I am learning to listen

In the stillness of dawn, before the world stirs,

I sit by the hearth, where silence confers.

The quiet speaks softly, a whisper, a sigh,

Teaching me truths no noise can belie.

I am learning to listen

To the sea, its timeless refrain,

A song of journeys, of loss, and of gain.

Each wave is a story, each ripple a prayer,

A call to be present, to listen, to care.

I am learning to listen

To the wind, as the trees carry voices of old,

Ancestral murmurs, both fierce and bold.

Their wisdom, like drums, beats deep in my chest,

A rhythm of strength, a call to be blessed.

I am learning to listen

To small voices of children, their laughter, their cries,

Are lessons in wonder, where innocence lies.

Each word is a treasure, each moment a seed,

Reminding my heart of the things we all need.

I am learning to listen

In the quiet, I listen for God,

In the dew on the grass, in the path I have trod.

His voice is a river, both gentle and wide,

A guide through the storms, a light by my side.

I am learning to listen

To listen is learning, to hear is to see,

The world in its fullness, its vast melody.

For when I listen, with a heart open wide,

I hold the echoes of life, where all truths abide.
