On the first day of month of May, I threw a challenge to my friends and family. I had planned to do the challenge alone as usual but I wanted an opportunity to check on friends, receive some form of feedbacks on self care and to share some lessons too. The challenge for the month was basically to do three things:
- Drink a cup or cups of water on waking up in the morning
- Spend 15 minutes to 30 minutes meditating or reflecting in a quiet space
- No use of phone until after two hours from wake up time
It is the end of the month and what I have learnt so far is that:
- Water makes the body feel a lot better. It cleanses and rejuvenates the body. A cup or cups of water is a good way to start the day and there is absolutely nothing better than water. My sincere apologies to coffee lovers. Water is life!
- My quiet space is in the living room and that is before anyone gets out of bed. I sit in yoga position and just enjoy the peace and quiet. Working from home isn’t the best option especially when you are a mom so the meditation is an opportunity for me to be by myself, breathe, exhale all the negatives and inhale positivity, reflect on the new day and do a little day dream. It helps with my sanity that’s for sure. Mornings or nights, just do you.
- We all can agree that the phone especially social media Apps can offer some sort of distraction. Its a new day and the last thing you want is to start looking at somebody’s profile or reading the latest gossip. Time spent on social media is not paid for and will never be replaced. Whatever it is can wait after all, we survived before phones came into our lives. I believe that we should make technology work for us and not the other way round.
For this month’s challenge, I was not regular with my meditations for some obvious reasons….I slept late and woke up late. I will have to take this with to the next month but overall, I did great. Why this worked well was because I integrated this challenge with my health and fitness plan for the month using the Smart Woman Life Planner. It made it so much easier.
Right now, I am so looking forward to the challenge for June. I look forward to having you join me. Follow this space.
Best,
JW
