7 TIME WASTERS YOU NEED TO KNOW

  1. The fear of failure can hold us back: This week, I wrote extensively on the theme ‘overcoming fear’ in commemoration of the Regina Pacis Old Girls Association Holy Week of Prayers. In one of the post on Facebook, I wrote that irrational fear of failure and refusal to acknowledge that mistakes are okay will create far more errors in the long run. When people refuse to accept the possibility of making mistakes, often they are reluctant to have someone check their work or review their project they are working on. Consequently, they end up making poor choices and mistakes, which in turn feeds their existing insecurities. The path to success is through multiple failures. Failing does not make you a failure, quitting does. I repeat, that you failed a thousand times, does not make you a failure rather, quitting does.

2. Perfectionism: Over the years, I have learnt that waiting for the perfect time and procrastination are like sisters from different mothers. Most business moguls would allude to ‘just start’ as the two most important words to a start up or budding entrepreneur. Start where you are, with anything you have, just start! That perfection you crave for may never come. instead of planning, preparing or waiting for the perfect time, just go do it! Done is better than perfect.

3. Trying to please everybody: It is literally impossible to please everybody and please do understand this thing about life. Humans have different opinions about issues and will never always think in your favour. Just be yourself and move on. Once the aim is to please another person, basically asking them to take control of your life.

4. Complaining doesn’t change anything when things go wrong. Complaining just gives your headaches and people around you may have a negative perception about you like you’re always complaining and not ready to work the talk or change the status quo.

5. Lack of priorities; don’t get involved in cases that don’t align to your goals and aspirations. Align your priorities right so you can confidently understand what you really want for yourself, where you see yourself and understand that you have to walk that process. If it doesn’t flow with your goals, let it go!

6. Worrying about what people will say instead of focusing on what is good for you: Worrying about what people will say predisposes us to allowing people to judge our abilities and will in turn, affect our productivity. The truth is, worrying about how others see us is a challenge and a major time waster. Spend your precious time discovering your God given strengths. Always remember you were born for a purpose, and that purpose maybe unlike anything you have encountered.

7. Not living your life like you want: Not being able to live the life you want might make you unhappy. So listen to your heart and learn to say no when it is something that that is not part of the life you want for yourself. Enjoy living your life every day; be inspired by the things around you. Find reasons to be happy and excited. Be free!

Cheers!
