5 WAYS TO GET YOUR KIDS TO EAT BEANS AND OTHER KINDS OF FOOD

Hiya!

We all know how difficult it is for kids to just love to eat beans. Once they find out that they are having beans for lunch or dinner, they start to cry, throw tantrums and feel like their world is about to end. I have put together the following tips towards ensuring that your child/children eat well and eat the right meals especially beans.

Let’s go!

1. It is very important to keep a wide variety of healthy foods available in the house and so they understand that beans is one of them. This practice will help your children learn how to make healthy food choices. beans should always be in the house. Go low on having alternatives especially inorganic food or snacks.

2. Encourage your child to eat slowly when eating beans. A child can detect hunger and fullness better when they eat slowly. Before offering a second serving, ask your child to wait a few minutes to see if they are truly still hungry. This will give the brain time to register fullness.
3. It is important to make mealtimes pleasant with conversation and sharing, not a time for scolding or arguing. Especially when it is beans, mealtimes should not be unpleasant, children may try to eat faster to leave the table as soon as possible or may not eat at all. Eating beans in a pleasant environment is always best for kids.
4. Try not to use beans to punish or reward your children. When some foods or snacks, such as sweets, are used as a reward, children may assume that these foods are better or more valuable than other foods. For example, telling children that they will get a sweet if they eat their beans sends the wrong message about beans. Exactly!
5. Reduce the amount of beans servings at a time. It is also very important to serve a portion of beans at a time. Not too much at a time but just a portion that is right for the age of the child. And if the child wants more, then you can add more.
Ciao!
