Its been work, work, work and more work and I am not complaining. I miss blogging! I can’t imagine my life without my blog…….incredibly unfair. 2016 is moving so fast and September is ending this week. Awesome God! Its been an interesting year and I am so looking forward to 2017 already. My daughter is in her final class (primary school) and I am so looking forward to seeing her in Secondary school. I am excited! The Partnership for Child and Family Health (PACFaH) Project which I am a part of will be ending next year so I seriously looking forward to seeing how much change the partnership has made in the lives of women and child, in the policy and in the development sector too. The economy is in recession too but we must be hopeful…..and trust our maker.
On the issue of gender based inequality or violence and as an advocate for women and girls, I think one thing I always point out for young women is to have high self esteem, self love and self respect. I had thought of how much low self esteem has put women in very bad situations and then they loose everything and sometimes, they loose their lives. I came up with a personal quote which I think will make a difference in the way we talk to our daughters….and sons, see our lives as ours and lets us value who we are, what we are and who we want to be.
Last week, I was at the Future of Health Conference and it was one of the best discussions we have ever had in Nigeria on how technology can benefit the health sector. As a young person, it was very inspiring as I was reminded of how simple technology can save lives especially, the vulnerable. For the first time, I heard Ola Orekunrin (The flying doctors) speak on her passion for her organisation.
I had some time to visit some stands.
And take some selfies with colleagues
The highlight of last week was baking a banana cake for the kids. I had never baked one but my kids inspired me to make one. They were excited like the little children that they are, they also followed the process through; mixing the butter and the sugar, blending the bananas and putting the mixture into the oven.
And when the cake was set, they could not wait to pounce on it. It was an awesome experience!
The cake came out very moist and very tasty. I loved that the banana flavour was not too much. It was just right. And so, I cut the square cake up into slices, put in foil paper and then into the freezer for school lunches. I am very sure I just won the hearts of the kids this week…….they will definitely do all I ask of them this week…..I better get my ‘ask list’ ready. Lol.
Ciao!
