IWD 2015 Fun Filled Tweet Chat; Celebrating our Nigerian Women

Happy International Women Day 2015 to all women all over the world. I am really excited and overwhelmed at the series of events and activities to commemorate the IWD2015. The radio stations, newspapers, television and social media really made a big deal out of  the celebration. Yes! its women’s day and we have a every right to celebrate but first and foremost, we should be reminded that we still have along way to go….a very long way.
I teamed up with some friends and colleagues to hold a tweethaton; a 24 hr long conversation on twitter with the theme: making it happen; women, career and family planning. the main objective of the event was to create an opportunity for young people to learn, share and connect on issues related to Family Planning with the goal of advancing the use of FP in all aspects of life.

And to my amazement, various organizations, NGOs and young people joined the tweethaton and it was great fun! Esther Agbarakwe facilitated the event and the various speakers and their topics included: Health benefits of Family Planning by Dr. Laz Ude; How FP can help women achieve their career goals by Timidi Digha; The role of men in making it happen for women by Muazu Muhammed and my humble self spoke on FP use in Nigeria (Successes and Challenges).

We also had some people on twitter share their success stories on FP use and we all agreed that Family Planning does #makethingshappen for everyone; young, old, married, singles, career women, house wives, mompreneurs and so on. Women can’t have kids every year and still be successful in their career or better still be a healthy and productive citizen.

If you missed it and you have a twitter account, please go online and follow the hashtag; #fp4women, #makeithappen #iwd2015 drop your comments, retweet and share the information with friends and other women.

I had so much fun and I can’t wait for the next tweethaton……fingers crossed, much sooner. And for all those who make women happen..all men who support women and women who support women….hugs and kisses.

Enjoy!
