Today I join millions of advocates to say to domestic violence.
It is absurd and appalling that millions of women suffer violence every day. Women are beaten, raped, slaughtered like animals, called all sorts of names, suffer injustice and the world keeps moving…..how?
She has the same chance to succeed as you and you let her down, you pushed her, she kept moving, you hit her and she kept singing….singing her sadness out, calling on her God. Oh God! hear her out and speak to the heart of her lover. Her “Olowo Ori mi”, her bed sharer….the man who sits at the gates and his fellow men praise him….because, he wears nice robes perfectly washed and ironed by his ‘lost but found ribs’, his stomach looks like that of a Pregnant woman; because he is well fed. She serves him his favourite meals; he eats the chicken laps, breasts, kidneys and even the head because he wants to know all and always be in charge leaving the legs and the wings for the rest of the family. They hail him because his business is moving well; his only ‘cockroach in the cupboard’ has just spoken to the major distributor of some products to always favour her husband and give him the best deals.
Ola is watching and Tola is locked up somewhere so she doesn’t get beaten too. Was it Ola’s fault that he fell sick and his mum couldn’t prepare dinner on time before his daddy came in?
Fortunately, the days of domestic violence is coming to an end not because I think so but because I trust that billions of women are going to start fighting for their rights, start acting right and pursue for a brighter future for themselves and their daughters. The time to start is now and we need to use every opportunity we have to push for women rights and engage men to support us….we can’t succeed alone. Domestic violence is not humility, it is not Christian or Islamic and it is not “Domestic Management”, it is violence and it is against humanity.
Join the 1 billion rising movement and rise up to the challenge. Do
