It’s Thankful Thursday once again and today I am thankful for something really special ……I am thankful for Family Planning Commodities. There’s nothing as difficult, interesting and crazily terrifying as wanting to have sex, having sweet sex and not getting pregnant.
I recently had a conversation with two older women (both have four kids each) and they both wanted to know why I didn’t want to have more kids (I have two), in their words “what are you waiting for when your last child is three years old?”. In my usual funny self I laughed hard, I was trying to think of a suitable answer to the question and with all sincerity, I explained to them the difficulties I face when I am pregnant; morning sickness, irritability and so on and that I wasn’t ready for it, I needed time, lots of time. Well, at the end of the discussion, I couldn’t really decide if they agreed with my excuse or if what I said made sense to them but, I was sincere.
After the birth of Isy, I told God to direct all the children that he had planned to give me, to give to all the couples I knew that were “waiting on the lord” and sincerely, he has blessed two couples on my list and He still has many more to go…..when he does that then I can happily have another one……..smiling. I also want my children to enjoy “babyhood” and “childhood” and for them to do that, I have to space. It is also interesting to note that I just love the way I look in the mirror, my shape is all back, no funny fat hanging here and there, I can wear body hugs and still look sexy and hot….my husband can still lift me up…….so I guess, I am liking what I am seeing……..smiling.
I have some funny ideas when it comes to family planning and children and I love the idea too but it is not easy for the couple but when they agree and work hard…..lots of self control….it really works. I would love to emphasize here that it is not a “woman thing” but a “couple thing”, they have to agree and work together. Family Planning helps the couple to live a happy and healthier life style, not just the couple alone but also the children….having kids too much too soon can kill both the mother and the child(ren).
Today, I am really thankful to scientists and producers, of contraceptives and other family planning commodities, Doctors, Nurses and Community Health Workers who help couples decide which is best for them and give out Family Planning commodities, Reproductive Health advocates who work so hard advocating for free and available Family Planning commodities in all states and communities and Lastly, I am thankful to the couples (especially women) who use these commodities, may your days be as bright as your cheeks.
