I remember watching NTA Newsline in the 90’s and the presenter, Frank Olize would always ask “Do you know where your children are?”. To me, it was not just a question but as a child, it was a reminder that I ought to be in the right places at the right time and with the right people it was not a privilege of some sort…IT WAS MY RIGHT.
I have been startled for days now because of the senseless killing of four young boys in Aluu, Rivers state and I can’t seem to get over it easily…..They had every right to face the law and if found guilty, tried and sentenced but they were stripped of their rights by a group of young people, who should be protecting them…..and killed in an unjust manner. I feel the same way when young girls 6, 8……sometimes 4 years old are raped by very much older men……hmmmmm parents….mothers…..Do you know where your girls are?.
Are they with their ‘supposed’ uncle or your nephew, or driver, “man of God”, or neighbour, or even house-help, who you think are safe hands but rather would sexually molest your girl child and leave her defiled, hurt and sometimes ‘dead’ with lots of stories to tell. Most times the safest hands are not safe at all…….that’s what I think.
Are they ‘having fun’ with the I pads, BlackBerries and Laptops you bought for them, rather than engaging in educational activities, they make friends on Facebook and other social networking sites and find themselves engaging in “time wasting” and unproductive activities.
Are your girls Nicki Minage, Lady Gaga wannabes spending so much money on cosmetics and beauty products, trying to look like the Indians or Brazilians when these people do not want to look like them….one bit!.
Where is your girl child?
Is she sexually active and you don’t care how she is able to protect herself or if she has multiple sexual partners. Its amazing that some parents don’t even know when their daughter is menstruating….are you nodding your head?.
How much do you know your girl child? and how much can you do for her till she is becomes an adult?. How much are you willing to share with her, so that she can do same for her siblings, children and the entire society?. …….Teach a girl and you are teaching an entire village.
This is for the International Day of the Girl Child. Every girl deserves a bright future!!!.
