WHYTES’ ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH: ADEREMI KUPOLUYI

I have not met Aderemi but since I share her passion with the less priviledge, I decided to share this with everyone and I am quite proud of what she has been doing as a youg person. Aderemi is young, dedicated, strong and passionate about the vulnerable especially young people in the society. Please meet her, in her own words;

I am Aderemi Kupoluyi. I live in Ibadan,Oyo state. I have a great passion for the less privileged kids,teens and I advocate for youths empowerment, I love to create awareness on issues like pre-marital sex, HIV/AIDs and other contagious diseases. With this passion in my heart I told a friend who is late now (Dare Malachi) and we organised an awareness programme on pre-marital sex and HIV/AIDS in 2005.

In 2006, with another friend we went to schools with the awareness. We started out by catering for the welfare of the less privileged kids and handicaps. Though our major aim is to get kids off the street but because we do not have the means to do that yet. We then brought children from an orphanage home to a garden to encourage them that better days are ahead of them and they should keep their hope and dreams alive. Since then it has become an annual event and we bring resource persons who know how these kids feels and encourage them,we have also treated health issues,ambition, and others. We organised competitions and quiz during the programmes for them to win gifts. We have fed almost 150 kids in our programmes.

Over the years, we faced lots of challenges especially that of funds but God has been faithful and be blessing us through family and friends, and resources persons when I write letters to them. They have never requested money from us, just that we have to spend money on some other things.

This year, we are taking a step further by including a street that we discovered have a high rate of teens and youths suffering. We will be organising an empowerment programme for them this year where they can learn different skills such as soap making,baking and making of snacks and so on,which will be useful to them after the programme and they can stand on their own and fend for themselves and support their families, and probably sponsor their education or get someone who may be willing to help.

My hope in years to come is that more people will rise up to assist these children and make the world a better place for all of us to live. And that we will get kids off the streets back to their homes or put them in good orphanage homes where they can be well taken care of and educated.

I believe that God has not blessed us to flaunt our riches  around but to help others who are in need. No amount is too small,bless a soul today. God bless you.
